Overhead heat or under tank heat?

Malays Dec 04, 2004 07:52 PM

In a 36 inch tank with room for basking light over one corner that gives a temp in high 80s but in other half of tank temp cooler would an overhead light be better than an undertank heating pad?
I prefer to use the light since I like the tank lit and the heating pad only at night but not sure. Any input suggestions?
Thanks.

I also use a light for the heat source. If you keep the ambient room temp sufficiently warm (I don't like my house to get below 72 F) then the heating pad shouldn't be necessary at night.

My garter is in a 20 long, has 1 60-watt bulb which gets the basking temp into the 80s, and that's it. Very low-cost.
