New to milksnakes. Question about genetics

jag Dec 04, 2004 09:35 PM

Hi all,

First off as the headline says I am new to milksnakes. I have had leopard geckos for a few years now and I just invested in a pair of Hondurans. I purchased a pair of hypos that are possible hets for anery. I was wondering if there was a site or something that would help to explain what morph crossed with what morph would produce...giving possible percentages or something. I ran across a genetics calculator a while back for the leos, but I am yet to find any such thing for the hondos. Also I am well aware that I will have to wait a couple years to breed them. Just merely curious. Thanks and I look forward to talking with you all in the future.

Go to the Corn forum and ask there. I seem to remember someone saying they had found a good one there.

Well, if you are lucky and they are both hets for anery, you could produce ghosts, which are rather cool and rare hondos. Since they are only possible hets, Id say it is likely that one of them is a het and the other is not, making your offspring possible hets at half the percentage that yours are.

if the leopard gecko morphs are simple recessives, then the hondo morphs -- hypo, amelanistic, anerythristic -- will function in just the same way.

for an intro to hondo genetics that i hope will prove useful, try:

and let me know if there are errors or places that confuse you, so i can improve it.
