I came home tonight to find one of my frogs dead. He was just sitting on the bottom and kind of bobbing along. Hes very bloated and soft. There seems to be blood or something red around what i can only guess is his anus. I can see veins on his stomach. Does anyone have any ideas about the cause of death? The other frog in the tank is perfectly healthy.

I have no clue, but it had to be something serious because it's next to impossible to kill of African Clawed Frogs.

Well after a crude but effective nonetheless autopsy of my frog, i have found no rocks inside him. I originally thought he may have swallowed a rock even though this would have been impossible seeing as how he could barely swallow his own food without me mushing it for him. But anyway, there was no rock in him so now im thinking it might have been a disease. Anyone know any frog diseases?

Hmm...Bloated and red veins? Sounds like a case of Bloat and possibly Red Leg disease. Go to this site- http://clawedfrogs.tripod.com/ This site has discriptions of diseases, pics of the diseases, and treatments for major diseases of African Clawed Frogs. I hope this helps, and I'm sorry your poor frog died. As was said, it's very difficult to kill this type of frog.

laters,
Bill

Thanks for the website. None of the pictures exactly matched my frog but one was close so i do believe he died from some kind of infection. I will keep looking though.

maybe he was impacted? that happens when something undigestible becomes lodged in the digestive tract and cant be passed out through elimination. that could explain the veins showing too, like he was straining to pass the object. do you have any gravel or small stones in the tank with him? ir it maybe was a fish bone?
