new to this species and want honest feedback as to whether this is an animal worth keeping. First JCP and among my first snake species. He is about 6 months old. Starting to get attached to him.

if your getting attached to him...keep him. he looks like a normal looking JCP to me but i'm no expert. Personallity has a lot to do with it too. If he isn't a bitter, like some babies i've read about, he's worth keeping in that respect. Regular handling and getting him on to rats will make for a nice pet. I have a female 6 foot JCP that is a wonderful pet. She was over the nipping stage since I bought her at approx a year old.

Thanx for the info. I breed geckos, so I am a newbie with snakes in general. I traded for the little guy and I do not know how to judge quality, as I understand color is a big issue with JCPs. So I threw it open to opinions. I am not offended to hear thet he is "the most ugly snake in the world", just trying to gain insight on judging these animals should I have an opportunity to pick up others.

Yeah, he likes to bite, but he is only 6 months old. But the bite is nothing, more like he bites just to have something to do, kind of reminds me of a puppy in that respect. I have been told this will pass as it gets older. It better, to me this is going to be a big snake.

yea, jcp's get to 6-8 foot. i've seen pictures of a 7.5 foot jcp. it was cool. but on the other hand they are slim so don't take up as much room as say a 8 foot boa.

his color won't really show till around 1.5-2 years of age.
