Geting some Florida Sun

This is a picture of a blue racer I caught and released over Christmas break in south florida. Beautiful snake - Mean though.
He bite me once I guess they have a reputation for a reason.

Since you said you found this snake in S. Florida, I expect it is actually an Everglades Racer (Coluber constrictor paludicola) as opposed to an actual Blue Racer (Coluber constrictor foxii) which is not found south of West Virginia.
My Peterson Field Guide actually references the picture of the Blue Racer for what an Everglades Racer looks like!
Depending on what you consider to be S. Florida, it might actually be a Southern Black Racer (Coluber constrictor priapus) like we have here in S. Georgia.
Either way, they are quick (like black liquid flowing down a steep greased hill) and are never slow to taste their oppressor (multiple times if not restrained).
Good to see you actually found something on your trip.
