A king of a different color. . .

BlueKing Dec 05, 2004 11:17 AM

This is a wild caught 20" female scarlet king from Tallahassee, Florida. Since I FINALLY took a pic of her (took me a over a year. LOL), I thought I would share it. I caught her last year in mid September in a pile of wood.

Where in Tallahassee was it found? That's where I live.

Hi there Sean! I found her right of off highway 261 in the southeaset corner (just outside the official city limits). There are series of large power poles in the same area that cross the highway with some wooded areas nearby (right near the big curve that turns into 319).There were a lot wood piles/boards about 100-200 yards off the highway.
Ok, I have aquestion for a local: Since you've been living there, tell me, when is the best time of year and time of day/night to see a kingsnake in your area? Thanks

Scarlet Kings Or Easterns?

If it's SKs, then Feb. thru April is probably the best time to find them under bark during the day.

If it's Easterns, then I really couldn't say. Mornings seem to be good to find them out basking. I've found them in almost every month of the year including November and December.

I am sorry, I did mean to say E. Kings/Florida's/Goini's. . . But I guess I got my answer. They (big kings) like to bask during the morning in S.E. Ga. also. . . (Used to live there in the eighties)
Thanks,

Zee
