I have a big green iggy. He is just over 4 feet long, but he doesn't have his full tail. He is sitting on a ten gallon fish tank.

another picture of Boris. This is when I first got him.

I may not have the biggest, but I bet I have the most unusual. I have 2 females that I named Sam&Ella. I got them at a flea market on June 22 2003. They were both 3.5 inches SVL, and now one of them is 14 inches SVL, and the other is 12 1/2 inches SVL. STL's are 47 inches and 38 1/2 inches. RIght now Ella is gravid and shedding, and Sam grew a half an inch this past month after being spayed on the first because she had become egg bound. I have a video clip of her surgery in the adventures section of my website, and pictures of the surgery, and my girls in albums in webshots. Nice pictures everyone!

I also have 2 girl iggys that are named Sam and Ella. They are about 1 year apart in age. Sam is the bigger one and Ella is the smaller one. Ella is almost getting as big as Sam. She is just now getting her stripes. I'll have to post some new pictures.

Flavia Guimaraes Dec 08, 2004 10:28 PM

Mainly the bright green one.She is gorgeous!Congratulations! You must be a good igs parent!

lizardladyadvent Dec 09, 2004 12:35 AM

Pretty girls. Your Sam looks like my Ella. What is that on top of their salad? How do you get them to eat together like that? I have to keep my girls in separate cages. Ella is very aggressive, she attacked Sam one day, but Sam showed her by taking a big chunk out of her. How old are your girls? You said one is older than the other, but I don't remember you saying how old. Sorry if you did and I just didn't catch it. I have been kind of brain dead since my girls became gravid, nervous ig mom here.

On top of their salad was green beans. They go nuts over green beans. They share a cage right now and have since I've had them. Sam is maybe between 2 1/2 and 3 years old and Ella is maybe 1 1/2 years old. There hasn't been any aggressiveness between them at all (so far). I plan to separate them as soon as I build the big enclosure for all my iggys. I think they like each others company. They are growing and getting too big for their cage, but they are still too small to free roam. I have an adult male green iggy(Boris) that free roams and sleeps on top of the cage. Then I also have Chaos an adult male Cuban Rock iggy. He free roams and has the bottom of the cage that he goes in to sleep.
Here is a picture of them sharing collard greens.

One more of the girls eating. You can see Ella's stripes are starting to show.

Good camera and gorgeous igs!

This is an old photo so I apologize for the poor quality. Charlie was a rescue that we took in years ago. He was being kept in a 100 gallon fish tank and fed lots of animal protein. When we got Charlie he was 6'4" in total length, 23 inches SVL, and weighed 20 pounds. He was as sweet as they come, too. Charlie was with us for 4 years before kidney disease did him in. I still miss that big lug.

ForestTime Dec 05, 2004 08:02 PM

That is a 4 foot chain link he's camped out on.

Forest is between 4-5 feet long.

Big, fat, spoiled baby.

jiffypop Dec 05, 2004 09:52 PM

Squig was another large male rescue that had an amazingly docile personality. He came in just under 6 feet and about 18 pounds until he had all but 8 inches of his tail amputated. He was a beautiful iguana and it's a shame that poor care early in his life caused that life to be cut short.

We currently have a few larger males here. One in particular is named Mohammad and he's quite the stinker. For the most part he's pretty easy going but has a short fuse and will charge with little warning. A challenge, but we love him anyway.

jondancer Dec 06, 2004 07:20 PM

i think jiffypop is our winner so far, must be crazy having all
those large surendered lizards

Flavia Guimaraes Dec 06, 2004 11:17 PM

TREX is 5,3 F and he is still growing. He is only 4,5/5 years old.I do hope he will reach 6 F!

Iggi will never be a 7 foot long male, but we love her. She's about 54 inches snout to tail. She lost an inch 2 years ago. We are hoping she will get some "chunkage" soon, so there will be more green girl to hug.

At my last vet visit over the summer, my 14 yr old Iggy weighed in at 20lbs and 6'2" length. I can try to get a pic, but he lives at my parent's house because my family didn't want to part with him when I moved out 5 years ago. (But I still take him to the vet myself, and pay for his proper care.) He's also an El Salv Blue, so he may not count for largest "green" iguana. He has free reign at their house and sleeps amongst the cats and dog, and uses the dog door to go into the backyard to use the bathroom. (In the winter, he's litter-box trained.) He hasn't been in a cage since he was 3, and I don't know if that could've added to his size. I'm not sure he even knows he's an iguana. (His food dish is next to the other pets' in the house.) He's been on my local news for being mistaken as an alligator a few times by neighbors. And now when he sits in the front window, my parents have told me that the neighborhood kids stand in front of their house to stare. A lot of reptile enthusiasts don't exactly like how I've raised him, but as my vet tells me everytime I go, he's the healthiest iguana she's ever seen. The only time him not having a cage has become an issue is during mating season, when he has a fondness for blue jeans and stuffed animals.

jrbl Dec 11, 2004 05:28 PM

You MUST post a photo of your ig. You did not mention his name, what is it? By the way, what did you mean by "A lot of reptile enthusiasts don't exactly like how I've raised him,"? If he is 6'2", 20 lbs, and 14 years old, you must have been doing something right all of these years. I have never heard of an ig gettting along with dogs and cats. That is very interesting. jrbl

My iguana, who is named Iggy (I was 12 when I got him), was shown on the news because someone had seen him in my backyard with my dog and called the cops thinking it was an alligator. Someone at one of the news stations picked up on the story, and the next thing I new I had the police and animal control at my door, along with Channel 7 news wanting to get the "alligator" before it ate my dog. When it turned out to be just an iguana, they still filmed him anyways, and since then he's been quite a celebrity in my old neighborhood. But with that, I had people who owned reptiles themselves saying that because my iguana was treated more like a dog, it was abusive. They apparently thought it was a better idea to keep him locked up and on a strict iguana diet, which I've never had any health issues with him on the diet he's been on for 14 yrs. I had people telling me that reptiles require special care, and he could become seriously injured if he ever escaped the confinements of the backyard. Which if anyone owns an iguana, you would know first hand that they are routine animals. He has never escaped, but has climbed a tree a few times, no big deal.
I had gotten my iguana before the dog, and cats were in the house, so they've all grown up together. I used to have a lovebird that would sit on his back occasionally, but the lovebird died a few years ago. 1 out of 3 cats gets along with the dog, and sometimes the cat, the dog, and Iggy are piled up next to each other sound asleep.
He's quite honestly the best pet I've ever had, and if I owned a house and not a small apt, I would most likely have him living with me. He's never been aggressive towards anyone or anything. He's on a first name basis at the vet's office. His vet even had me take him to her son's school once for "how and tell". The only person he's ever hissed at is the mailman, and that's part of his daily routine. He seriously thinks he's a dog.

lizardladyadvent Dec 15, 2004 12:46 AM

I hope I got the picture put in right. I may not have the biggest iguana, but I think I have one of the fastest growing iguanas. I got my girls on June 22nd of 2003. The picture is an edited picture of my Ella. She was 13 inches STL when I first measured her on July 1st of 2003. That is the little iguana in the picture. The other one is Ella on July 1st 2004. I had her pose on the same rock so I could have something to size the picture to make it accurate. In my hand you can see the harness that she was wearing as a baby. I plan to take a new picture each year to show how much she has grown. Ella is going to be a monster once she grows up. Now that Sam has gotten rid of those eggs she is starting to make up for lost growth. By the way! I love all the pics I have seen so far. Beautiful iguanas!!!
