Ordering Crickets Online

AtelerixMel Dec 05, 2004 01:04 PM

What company do you use? So far the cheapest places I've found are Reptile Food, Bug Depot, and Worm Man. Are these trustworthy companies? I looked at pet stores in my area (where I'm moving to) and they want $.12 a cricket! Thanks but no thanks!

I have had good luck with Wormman.com as far as being alive and CLEAN when they got to me. They never have any pest bugs, which in itself is enough to get my buisness. I'm going to try ReptileFood here pretty soon, and I have also heard good things about Ghanns. Their prices are killer high, but supposedly they have a major overcount.

I use both Reptile Food and Rainbow and have been pretty happy. I've tried a few others and always come back to these too. I usually pick up at Rainbow since they are just 45 minutes away, they have great customer support and at seems i get a free 500 large just about every other order. It's not much but they are free and they kow exaclty what I want when I come in.

Hi Melissa,

Sometimes I order from herpfood.com (part of reptiledepot.com) because I can get as few as 100, which for Luna lasts quite some time. They are clean and always an overcount and most all arrive alive but I would suggest ordering on Saturday or Sunday so they go out on Monday. I find if I order on monday they are not always prompt about shipping and end up sitting somewhere over the weekend. I ALWAYS follow up with aphone call to see if it shipped.

Now that I will be ordering more b/c of tarantulas I will most likely use reptilefood.com. They are prompt, great quality and their customer service is great. I had a problem with a ff order once and they responded and corrected immediatley - no questions asked. I highly recommend them. If you have lots of herps to feed then I am sure some of the other companies are fine, but your situation is like mine and I have found herpfood to be the cheapest for a very small count. Reptilefood is working on offering smaller quantities.

Thanks everyone.

I think I will try Herp Food. I was a little worried about ordering 500 crickets as I don't want them all to die or get to large before I can feed them. I'll try 250 first and see how that works.

What is the maximum number of crickets you would suggest for a 10 gallon tank? I don't want to overcrowd them.

Can you order from Herp Food over the telephone? We have horrible internet service at my house so telephone would be much easier.

yes. go to reptilefood.com and see their contact number. They are in CA so consider time change (if needed) and they don't open until 10:00 a.m.

Just a thought on quantity...how much does Diesel eat? If he eats regularly then 250 should be good. If you offer other feeders you may want to begin with 100. And/or get two different sizes - like 100 of 3 week old and 100 of adult (or whatever works for you).

Frankly, if you are going with 250 all the same size I would recommend reptilefood.com for their prompt shipping and customer service...just my musings

Oh, tank set up. I usualy do 100/10 gallon tank. try the plastic canvas setup to help keep the poop out of food and them. clean and remove any dead ones immedaiately - they stink!
