Is this normal??

SnowWhite22 Dec 05, 2004 01:34 PM

My RES has what looks like skin peeling off. Kind of like when a snake sheds his skin, but thinner because of the water. Its around his neck area. It doesn't seem to bother him but is this normal? I haven't read anywhere that skin shedding is an occurance in RES's.

Also along his shell, where his spine is, there are scrapes. Its not shell rot. It looks more like he has been scraping it along the rocks. I'm not surprised, because he likes to squeeze into spots too small for him. No matter how I set up, he still finds spots to squeeze into. Will this ultimately hurt him?

Thanks!

I have had my slider for a year now and he has shed twice...I would say that it is normal as he grows he is shedding. I often use the zoo med shell and skin conditioner during this shedding time to help him out a bit :O)
Hope this helps

Visible skin shedding is generally a sign that they are being overfed,
