PLEASE HELP sick tegu

kevinBD1 Dec 05, 2004 05:11 PM

I rescued a tegu yesterday, he is 2 ft long and was in a 10 gallon tank w/ no heat, his bedding was hay. He hasnt been fed in a while, but right now he wont eat. His mouth is pink, but has a lot of saliva inside of it. The inside of his nostrils are red, and the tip of his snout has a red tint to it(hes a black and white tegu) he is very weak and most of the time he keeps his eyes closed. He doesnt look too skinny either. Any guess on what is wrong w/ him? he is not wheezing or anything that i have noticed.

please help

My guess would be dehydration and a probable upper respiratory infection. My first suggestion would be to take him to a reptile-vet.
Second suggestion would be: try to get the tegu hydrated first using electrolytes, then gradually raise the ambient temperature by 10 deg.F.
Goodluck
