Any Suggestions on Flexible Heat Rope

toshamc Dec 05, 2004 08:17 PM

I posted this question in the cages forum but didn't get a response so I was hoping to get some info here since y'all are so helpful. I bought some flexible heat rope from Big Apple that I had planned on running on the inside bottom of my snake cage. It says that it's safe for animals and it will be hooked up to a thermostat. My original plan was to tape it to the inside bottom of the cage and just bury it under 2-3 inches of repti bark. But now I'm wondering if that's safe or not? Should I put down a floor on top of it (and if so what do I use)? I was also thinking about maybe switching cypress mulch in the future, and I'm wondering if that would still be safe with that. Anyway, if anyone with previous experience can help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

The tape would probobly work...I use the heat rope in a couple cages of mine and i really like it...i routed a groove for it to sit in and used some hot glue in a couple places to hold it down.
The only thing i might consider about the tape is if your snakes spills water alot....might make the tape kinda nasty after awhile.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that, I was more concerned that I was going to set my tank on fire or fry my snakes. But you are right. I found a post a while back where someone used electrical tape to tape it to the bottom of their cage but since I'm putting it inside I guess I should play around with it for a while an look at all my options. Thanks.
