Pics of a few of my orange babies, and a new translucent dragon.

Mystical-Dragons Dec 05, 2004 11:56 PM

Been a while since I shared a few pics, but took a few of a new translucent dragon today, and figured I'd share a few of the growing babies as well. Enjoy

Sobek is a male that I held back for future breeding. Very happy I kept one that turned out so strikingly similar to the mother Candy.

Hollywood is the dragon I was able to purchase back from a customer who's new wife was making him sell the dragon.. Could you imagine that?? hehe Never in a million years would I get myself into a situation like that Unfortunately Hollywood needs a new home as I'm so very male heavy, and have a few male siblings already

This is the new translucent who is not yet named. Any ideas?? He was sold to me as a 6 month old and is a nice size at 17 inches long. Very interesting dragon. I never thought I'd have one of these in my collection, but temptation got the best of me again. Guess I could be addicted to much worse things then bearded dragons

Last but not least is Little Einstien. Einstien is my girlfriends dragon and couldn't be more spoiled

Thanks for looking, and letting me share.

Wow, nice looking dragons. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the translucent? Do you know where I can get one or a pair?

Jeff

Mystical-Dragons Dec 06, 2004 01:43 PM

Hey thanks Jeff. I got the translucent at a reptile show in PA. I know this one was produced by Sandfire, and as far as I know they are the only breeders selling them in any numbers. They would be where I would check first as they were the first to produce translucents. I haven't seen many for sale lately, but every now and then they pop up on the classifieds. Good luck.

Those have got to be the ugliest most hideous dragons I've ever seen, guess you'll have to send them to me lol. Seriously though, beautiful as always Matt. How long until you start producing the translucents?

Thanks Sean. I always thought the translucents where very ugly until I looked into the bin and was captivated by those big black eyes staring up at me... Reminds me of big alien eyes LOL.. I kept on getting these thoughts, and hearing this voice saying take me home, take me home every time I looked into the bin at him. HHmmm maybe they are aliens after all. No plans as of yet to produce translucents though. I'm really curios to see how hearty they are, and if there are any differences other then just the skin mutation, and to see if the skin mutation has any negative effects on them. He's a nice size, nice weight, and is eating very well already. Off to a good start it seems. If he's doing good by next season maybe I'll produce a few hets with him. Think having one with bright orange full body coloration would be pretty neat. Who knows he's only 6 months old, so I have some time before breeding is in the picture. Thanks though, glad you liked the dragons Sean

Nice dragons...........well you know I like the Candy babies.........told you to hang on to them as they would be hot!

Mystical-Dragons Dec 06, 2004 04:45 PM

You told me to hold them all back!!! If only I could I would have. I had no idea looking at them at 3 weeks old that they would be anything like they turned into now, but you knew from the first week. Now I find myself wondering if I can buy back a few from some of my customers. LoL remember that Chris? Oh Candy was a gem!! Think Sobek and one of the females Myst look so very much like her.

Just thought I would show off Herbie. He is awesome Matt. He is a big sweetheart and at 6 months is 455 grams and almost 20 inches.

TarHeelDragons Dec 06, 2004 06:10 PM

Matt,
I am sure you have many satisfied and appreciative customers. Not only does Herbie have awesome color and size, he ate his greens and loved to be handled from day one. You have the whole package. I would not sell Herbie for any amount of money and I am convinced that he is the best deal that I have or ever will get on a dragon. Thanks!

Wendy

Mystical-Dragons Dec 06, 2004 06:51 PM

Herbie was the first one that came to mind LOL.. I just love the way he is turning out. Your doing a great job with him, and his color and size proves it Wendy. I could not be any happier with the wonderful and loving home Herbie has there with you and your children. Thanks for sharing pics of my baby, and keeping me updated on his progress. The updates and pics are so very much appreciated. Herbie is stunning, and I look forward to seeing many little Herbies in the future LOL Thanks for the kind words Wendy.

I can't believe how nice some fo the dragons from thjat cross turned out.... Like I said to you in an email... I think they are the best oranges I've seen all year and now after some growth and sheds... Geez.... Some of the best I've ever seen... really... The growth rate in them from the ones I've seen posted is awesome and man the number of them that turned out that big and with that amount of color... Really awesome cross... lucky dog... Congrats on your success this year.

Thanks Rob I really appreciate it. I'm really happy with the way they all turned out. I'm amazed by the growth of some of them as well. I forget how fast Foster grew when he was a youngster, but I actually think a few are growing even faster then him. Cheri's & Wendy who posted above dragons are so darn LARGE, and a plus colorful. Think Cheri's Merlin is 21.5 inches and 500 grams at 7 months of age, and Wendy's Herbie a month younger but very close to that and impressive. My holdbacks are 2/3rds of that and I think that that's even good considering the age, and how old the parents where before they stopped growing. I was very lucky and blessed with some nice babies. I enjoyed ALMOST every minute of raising them

The pair of dragons that Chris gave me after all that bad luck I had with the adeno will begin breeding next month. The male is a zillafroggy X redflame/sandfire red and the female is the red X orange cross he did before he retired to the country... :0)

Puffy is already proven as i sold him to a good friend here in Tulsa who bred him to an orange sandfire and those babies turned out awesome so far and haven't even been through their first shed yet... very red for the most part right out of the egg! He is over 20" and i don't know what he weighs but he is FAT!! I just bought him back from her this past week.... and of course I get first pick or two or you know... maybe 4 from the clutches... hehe....

Jenny is at 16.5" but she has a fairly good sized tail nip I'd say at least 1 to 1.5" and she is FAT too. When I got her she wasn't that colorfull at all but my god... did that change... She is very nice!!! she looks like Mommy all the time and Daddy when she fires up.....

Can't wait till these guys start popping out... SHould prove to be a very nice cross as these guys grew super fast to a good size and weight! I'm going to uthenize one of the less desirable babies and have him tested for adeno so that there will be no question and i can guarantee that my dragons are 100% adeno virus free and hopefully put that chapter to rest finally as far as concern about the health of any of my dragons.

Since this pair was a gift from Chris i'm going to put the pick of the clutch male (best size and color) from each clutch up for auction and donate Half of the money to Veronica at beautiful dragons for her rescue/website costs.... I just love her to pieces... she really did an awesome thing there... and the other half to the emergency vet fund for people who have emergencys and can't afford it. I figure that paying it forward is the least I can do for what it meant to me and the kids that he did that for us after what happened with the adeno. You really would have had to see to believe what a positive effect that his generosity had on the kids.... They were so heartbroken that all the lizards died... Puffy and Jenny really meant alot to us!

Thanks a million Chris!!! Miss you here in beardie land!

Later,
Robert

There are no words! I have to agree with you about the translucents. I thought they looked creepy at first, but that baby you posted is awfully cute! I would be very interested to see if there are any problems with the heartiness of the line. I doubt SAndfire would sell trhem if there was , but they are pretty new. Oh, and a het with one of your oranges....WOW! That would be an awesome cross!
