How do you tame an Australian Water Dragon ?

philliphall Dec 06, 2004 06:38 AM

I have five month old Australian Water Dragon. He will (sometimes) let me put my hand by him (which I try every day) and once let me stroke him but is generally very flighty. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on taming him down without stressing the poor little guy out to much. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hand feeding him so he associates YOU and FOOD will make him your best friend quickly. Offer him a nice, fat cricket or waxworm with very slow hand movements. Also, once you have him in your hand, let him run from hand to hand (don't drop him) until he calms down. Once he realizes you're not going to EAT him he'll be happier. Depending upon how you house your WD, I also crouch so that I am lower than my WD. They appear to be happier when they are higher than the people and animals around them. I would NEVER put a WD in a cage on the floor. Always use a stand. Good luck!
