WTF Help

Sti-lysh Dec 06, 2004 11:12 AM

I just recently got a WTF he is fairly big around 3 inches or so. He is a brown color right now and I was wondering if that changes with the surroundings. There were other ones that were green at the store. Also, is it ok to feed him a bunch of smaller crickets rather than a couple large ones? Just wondering, other than that he seems healthy and can almost jump out of my ten gallon tank. Also what is the ideal temp and humidity. Is misting the tank with a spray bottle healthy for them? I know this is a lot to ask but hopefully someone can help.

Thanks,
Leo

Ok you can spray the frogs with the mister it usually stimualtes them to wake up from sleeping. Small crix can be fed also. The tank shud be a 20 gallon high instead of a 10. I think you said he was a small frog 3 inches. It should be fine for now. I would change it to 20 soon and 10 gallons more for each frog. I'm not sure about the frogs changing colors but they are usually brown when they wake up or are in stress or sometimes just because they arent used to the new home. Mine did that too but now 2 of them are Green and the other(Max) is Blueish green. Hope this helps!

My WTF's color will be bright green during the day when basking in the heat. And in the evening after turning off his basking light and misting his tank he starts turning brown. I'm sure it has everything to do with heat and humidity. The warmer they are the brighter green they will be and the more humid and cooler it is the browner they will be. That is what I have found.

Mine are always quite variable in color. From brown to bright green and even purplish. I think it completely depends on their mood or what they are doing. I have also read that frogs that spend more time on the ground tend to remain more brown and those that spend more time up in the foliage tend to stay green.

I have had hime for like three days now and he has yet to eat. I put like 2 large crickets in and hes yet to touch them. They are still running aroung in the tank. I have a little cave in the tank and all he seems to be doing is hiding out in there the whole time. I hope that he is ok, he looks fine. I think his tak may be a little cold so im going to get him a warmer bulb. If anyone could help Id really appreciate it.

I feed mine outside the actual enclosure. Partially because when I had frogs of different sizes and I was only feeding one large crickets. I feed them in a small plastic cage without substrate and they go crazy. They know that when they go in, they're getting food. Also, I spray just before I feed and then they usually come down, again knowing there will be food. Or at least hoping, as I spray about 4 times a week and feed only twice. That might be more of a help if you don't want to feed outside the normal enclosure. Hope this is helpful.

im not a professional or anything but your frog may just be brain damaged!lol jk...depending on where you got him it may be that he was recently shipped to the pet store (im assuming) you got him from. there tends to be a shock period sometimes but should not last more than a week. WTF's are avid eaters and should accept almost anything they can take advantage of. even to a point where there gorge themselves. Keep and eye on him. they are also noctornal. mine usually dont come out until around 12:30-1:20am. misting is fine for the tank 1-2 times per day. maybe he will eat if you stop driving your Subaru STI WRX LEO> LOL

Your good friend.

Thank you Joeseph Beeeeeeee,

He is still not eating. Yesterday i lifeted up the cave and a cricket was sitting right on top of his head. He didnt budge a muscle. Im thinking hes sick or somethin. Hes been out a couple time in the last few days like sitting in the water bowl. But if you go over there he kinda runs back in the cave. I dunno, Im a little disgusted with his performance as of late.

I also have a new WTF, Chris is his name (Chris Kringle) aka LUDA-Chris by my 9 yr old. We knew he was held alot by the pet store owner. So we held him (wash your hand first!) also, he wasn't interested in eating for 2 days, then ate only 1 cricket. He eats a minute fraction of what our bearded dragon eats. From what we've found by doing a google search, its really important not to over feed. So maybe you're still ok. Do you have a thermometer in your tank? Make sure the temps ok, mist with de-chlorinated water, hold him and bit, then check with a pet store or a vet that specializes. Also, read my next post - I have other questions! Good luck and don't be too hard on the poor baby.
