another of my favorites...

umop_apisdn Dec 06, 2004 11:59 AM

as of right now....

3.1.3 phantasticus
1.1 henkeli
1.2 pietschmanni
1.1 anolis carolinensis
2.3.1 rhacodactylus ciliatus
1.0 trachemys scripta elegans (red-eared slider ive had for like 15 yrs!)

and ive got a new female phant coming in tomorrow. theres a female ciliatus at the local pet shop for only $80 and ive seen her fired up and shes a bright orange dalmation. i dont think ill be able to pass off on that deal. and not to mention im planning on getting a second colony of phants going!

boy Dec 06, 2004 12:10 PM

I love the look of dalmations. I'm after some that just loaded with spots. I'm going to try and set up something this year with that. I'm waiting for Pangea Rps to drop me a line on their offspring. I'm also thinking about setting up my own group to get started on with that, something to keep the bloodlines diverse.

Thank god for cool temp animals. I don't know if I could afford another group of animals that required heat lamps.

cheers
jason

yea, not to mention i would hate for my room to be hovering around 85 degrees or higher! its so nice to have animals that pretty much live at room temp all year round! i love being able to use fluorescent bulbs because theyre a lot more efficient when it comes to energy use!

I'm in the same boat as Leah... To sum it up, right now, at home I have several snakes, a ton of inverts, and dart frogs... In the past I've kept cams, exotic small mammals, and various other lizards and amphibians at home... On top of that, I have animal keeping experience with just about anything you can name...

I used to only be into T's, I got my first one from my parents when I was about 6 and fell in love... From there it exploded into all kinds of inverts! I used to keep and breed a few Peocilotheria species (by far my favorite genus of invert)... Again, you name the invert and I've probably had my hands on it!

No animal in the world will replace my dog... I just had to have him put down though... My little puppy Domino lived 19 years, and I'm only 23 so he's been by my side for most of my life... God I loved him; I miss the hell out of that little guy!

that sucks. are you going to get another puppy soon?

PHEve Dec 06, 2004 07:02 PM

That is very sad, and I agree, I have had so many animals in my life, different kinds, even a small monkey when I was a teen ager.

BUT NOTHING compares to our Doggies! I'm going through some sad times right now with one of mine, Sundance, hes 15, blind and has arthritis and some days has a tough time.

I know that awful horrid sad day will come for me too, very soon, and I dread the thought of him not being here.

You always have the great memories, and the quiet times with each other that you spent, (the bond / LOVE ) is INSIDE you forever, hope you Cherish it always!

i have only had one dog in my life, her name was murphy. she was a beautiful collie that i became really attached to right off the bat, because she was a beaten, malnourished girl with a pretty bad case of heartworms. we got her back up to weight, took care of the heartworms, and she was an adoring pet for a good number of years. she was always timid because she had previously been beaten, but she warmed up to our family and anyone that came over regularly. she died a couple years ago, and i would say it was the last time that i REALLY cried. something about those dogs just really gets you attached...anyway, i've been wanting a new dog ever since, but my geckos take up most of my life right now, and ive always been deathly scared that if i had a dog and a lizard got out, well....you can guess what would happen.

sorry to hear about your dog ben. remember the good times. even though he cant be with you anymore you'll always be able to remember him.

boy Dec 07, 2004 01:32 AM

I've only had one dog in my lifetime. I've had various things from small marsupials to siberian chipmunks and atleast 16 species of anoles, even a croc monitor for a short period of time.

My dog was a dobbie named KD. He was an attack dog that was hit by a car during a break in, he lost an eye and had several broken ribs and a fractured skull when he was hit. Anyhoo, his previous owner didn't really do much to bring his health up so my mother removed the dog and nursed him back to health while she was pregnant with me. We had him until I was seven, which is when we put him down. I was sitting in the vet's office with KD's head in my lap when the doc gave him the injection. I didn't know what it was, but was they told me it would make him take a long nap. It took a few minutes for me to realize that he was not going to wake up. When I did I wouldn't let his body go. I kicked and screamed and held on like there wasn't anything else in the world. I cried for days and even refused going to school after that happened. KD did have serious health problems, his rear hips were shot and his front were about to go as well. When we put him down, he was 15 years old. I haven't had a dog since then because it hurt so much. I was raised with that dog, he even slept in my room in a big comfy chair we had given him. Totally, could not handle letting him go. I haven't yet. I still won't get another one because of it. Instead rats and cats are my mammals of choice now. And even then, I don't have any. My parents gave me a stuffed doberman toy shortly after he passed away, I haven't slept with out it in my room since then. Its kinda cheesy but it helps. That and the sound of crickets is just as good.

Next to my dog, a mangrove monitor I had a few years ago was my next favorite pet. Beautiful lizard at that.

So...ummm...

cheers,
jason
