Felissa Dec 06, 2004 01:12 PM

Can anyone tell me the ratio of water to pedialyte to use on a small cham?

First, why are you using Pedialyte? It should only be given to a cham who is really dehydrated and not drinking on its own. If the cham is drinking on its own regularly water is safest. Spraying with hot/warm water slowly for a longer time is better than a short intense soaking blast. If you need the Pedialyte I don't think you need to dilute it. A trick...spray the cham and let it start swallowing and drinking on its own if it can. Then you can drip Pedialyte from an eyedropper onto its snout and it should be able to get it this way with less stress.

He's definitely dehydrated, I'm not giving it to him just for kicks. I can get him to drink, except he's now not holding onto his branches well. His eyes still don't look right either. I would have already rushed him to the vet, except some {{insert foul language here}} smashed in the passenger side window of the car this weekend and I haven't been able to get a new one yet.

The only thing I have to go on is that his eyes are sunk a bit and he's not very responsive. He was fine yesterday, alert, eating, changing colour when I reach into the enclosure to let out some fruit flies. Now I can pick him right up without protest. Until I can get him to a vet, this is the best I can do.

He has a reptisun 5.0, a halogen and a ceramic bulb (it gets cold in here). The ambient temp of his enclosure (a reptarium) is about 80, his basking spot is 95. He's misted with warm water three times a day (or more, if it's particularly dry.) He's fed fruit flies, house flies and very small crix (I've also got some other variety on it's way in the mail). He's given vitamins (herptivite & miner-all) twice a week and calcium(rep-cal w/D3) four times. Most of the stuff in his cage is plastic (with the exception of one sandblasted grape vine and some pothos- I've covered the opening of the pot in mesh to prevent acess to the dirt and used untreated soil) I'm not ruling out some sort of impaction due to the crix. They're very small though (ten day old).

Ah, I see. BTW, you are doubling up on calcium and this isn't really doing anything. Use either the Minerall OR the Rep-cal, not both. Vitamins are OK. Be sure his night time temp drops about 10 degrees and that there are NO visible lights on. Without that temp drop at night he will be stressed metabolically. He can handle a night time temp drop to 60 with no problem. Good luck!

I walked out of the room for a moment, and came back to find him on the bottom of his enclosure. He's completely unresponsive except for the slightest of movements. I am having a hard time telling if he's still alive, except for he keeps changing colour. I can't even tell if the movement is just my hands or wishful thinking.
