Value of graybands?

LoganWrong Jul 02, 2003 02:20 AM

I know this is a dumb question, but kingsankes are completely new to me. I received a graybanded kingsnake from my science teacher in May. It is a juvenile. I'm not much of a colubrid person, I like my pythons, so I am wanting to sell it. He is normal phase I assume, and is fat and healthy. What is the value of these snakes? How much could I get out of selling him? Thanks.

It depends. Some snakes that are not very pretty I sometimes give away because no one will pay for them. The locality Christmas mountains alterna that are screamers, with good documentation to support where they came from are still worth 200.00 each on up. Dan Johnson still gets up to 500.00 for his speckled GAP alterna's. A killer pinstripe 277 can fetch up to 150.00 if you can find one for sale that is that nice. Dull or not so pretty 277's can be hard to give away. I saw a guy that had a shoebox full of below average looking 277's for sale at a show for 35.00 each. If they were awesome I would have paid 150.00 for a varifiable locality screamer. He was having a tough time selling these. Where is your snake from, how doe's it look? Ric Blair

He is wild caught from Texas, but amazingly, I've got him adapted to feeding on mice. That is the reason my teacher gave him to me, he got sick and tired of having to buy feeder anoles, and I told him that I could handle it, I started him off with mouse maker covered lizards and now he's on mice. He is 2 feet long, is very niceley colored. His bands of gray and orange are evenly spaced and sized. He is fat and happy and very tame. I just am not that interested n colubrids, but I'll keep him until I can find him a GOOD home.

Just don't sell it to a petstore, thats for sure. Do you live in Texas? If you have a dig camera take a pic and post it.

Logan,
Do you have a photo you could post? I'd be interested in the animal, possibly. Is it a verified male? I actually need another female (don't we all ) but new w/c alterna blood is hard to come by when you live in North Carolina! But I do have access to Okeetee and all types of rats, corns, milks, and getula kings, so I shouldn't complain. I'm all about colubrids.
