25 gallon high tank

janome Dec 06, 2004 03:03 PM

do corns really like to climb? I have a 25 gallon high tank. messure 24"L X 12" D X 21"H and was wanting to put a mostly arboreal snake in it. I have 2 corns already so was wondering if one could benifit from this tank. right now they are in 20 gallon long tanks. if a corn won't fair well in the 25 is there another snake that would. Thanks.

all of the corns that I've ever had like to climb when they're young. after about a year or so they tend to just like to hide, so I stopped offering big things to climb on. but snakes do have different personalities, so i'd say try it out... if it climbs a lot, then go for it. if not... i wouldn't keep it in there simply because of the poor ventilation of tall cages. but that's just my opinion.

Arboreal snakes live in the trees. Corns are not true arboreal.

They do enjoy climbing, however. How long are you looking at keeping your snake in this enclosure? Up to about 2 years of age, it will fit fine in that tank...but I wouldn't keep a full grown snake in a 25 tall tank. That's just too small. If you want to see them climb, then a 29 would work...it's the same base size as a 20 long; however it is 18 inches tall vs 12. I would reccomend to have climbing structures...but I would also reccomend a 55 gallon tank for a full grown corn. This will give plenty of room for play, stretching out, and climbing.

All snakes are different, however. Some enjoy climbing a lot, some couldnt care less. I have goo examples of both in my collection.

i know arboreal snake live in trees. that is why i'm looking for one that would make use of the 25 gallon tall tank and not out grow it. i have several branches in it from my anoles and some fake vine plants. (don't worry i will clean it out before putting something else in the tank. )
