Strange feces

cable2001 Dec 06, 2004 03:29 PM

I almost had a heart attack yesterday when I looked in my cage and saw what appeared to be a bloody intestine sticking 3/4 inch out the back of my female collared. It turned out to be the exoskeleton of a butterworm (pale yellow with red markings) that she was having a hard time passing. For whatever reason, she passed it intact and it was kinda stuck for a while. She ran around with it for a bit before it finally came the rest of the way out.

Anyone else ever have that happen? To your lizards, I mean.

I know my lizard, Tobias, seems to pass whole crix. Of course, he's been sick for quite a while now but I always thought this was normal.

Certain worms are hard for lizards to digest, maybe a butterworm is one of them?

I'd like some feedback on this also, because if it is abnormal Tobias needs to be fixed up some more. Someone else will be able to tell you more.

if they are not sometimes they will not digest their food properly and it will come up, or out whole and undigested.

With mealies and worms that have a high chitin content, they sometimes throw them up. But a waxie is pretty soft, so are butter worms. So I would check the temps, just to make sure

Yeah, basking should be like 100-105 degrees, and that's where -my- lizard spends most of his time.

even 110 by the end of the afternoon.

The REST of the tank needs to be in the HIGH 80's or 90

They like it Hot! Crank her up a few notches and see if she digests better
