Im in MD and the local Giant orders me a weekly quantity of 20lbs for $10.00. It comes green and just needs a little rehydrating. I'd suggest trying the grocery stores (personal opinion)

I was just gonna ask this. I am looking for growable and feedable pads. Anyone know where to get them? I want to get a stock growing inside for transplant this spring. Also, any suggestions of how best to root/grow the cactus. Thanks...

Id be willing to purchase a few pads from someone on this board if they would be willing to part with a few... if so email me at:

Opuntia (prickly pear) is incredibly easy to propagate. When you get a pad or two, just set it aside and let it scale over (let the cut or broken off end dry out) and then set it in some sandy-ish soil. (not too sandy) I have several pads I collected (it grows wild here) that I meant to feed out and forgot about. I checked them the other day and it had started to sprout roots. They'll sprout roots from almost anywhere on the pad, not just the base. I could probably collect some "spineless" prickly pear and send it to you, if you'd pay shipping.

If you have any Hispanic markets in your area they typically have it year round. Just ask for nopales.
