Questions regarding Incubation and Eggs

Jilazee Jul 02, 2003 05:36 AM

Thanks for reading this.. I appreciate posts on any answers or experiences you've had.

I have a single home made incubator that is VERY steady in temperature and I use the Abey method of incubation. I have a 1.1 setup.

On the 5th June she laid her 1st clutch.
On the 26th June she laid her 2nd clutch.

Both have been in the same box at the same temperature. (83f)
The 1st clutch of eggs which I presume will take ~55 days to hatch I've candled and they don't appear to be clear..

Questions.
How long should it take before I can see veins inside the egg?
I've heard of methods of turning the temperature up.. How long does it take for the gender to be impretned on the egg by the temperature?
After how many days would you expected eggs incubated at 83f to hatch?

Most my fertile eggs you could see veins when they were layed (very small) but after a few days become more pronounced. They will feel very firm like a marshmellow where infertile will squish some like a water bag. Sex is determined in the first 2 weeks, so if your trying for females wait that long. I give them 2.5 weeks before I turn up the temp. I believe your on the money for a time frame if you leave them at 83 for the whole duration. Give all yours eggs a couple weeks and if they havent colapsed or molded by then but candle yellow with no sign of veins or a pinkish glow I would suspect nonfertile. I've had eggs go the full term never molding or colapsing that were unfertile, they also always candled yellow. Takes some experience to get a good feel for this.

Well...I have not candled any of my eggs....but non are rotting or molding and have been incubating for a while so I am assuming they are fertile. I am on I think day 46 of incubation for my first 2 eggs who have also been incubated around 82 degrees. They should hatch between 50-60 gays of incubation. After the first 2-3 weeks, you can up the temperature if you wish.

"I've heard of methods of turning the temperature up.. How long does it take for the gender to be impretned on the egg by the temperature?"

The gender is determined within the first 2 weeks, or 14 days.

"After how many days would you expected eggs incubated at 83f to hatch?"

Approx. 50-60 days
