cage for my gopher

janome Dec 07, 2004 08:56 AM

I have an albino sonoran gopher that was hatched July 11,2004. Right now he is in a 10 gallon size tank with short sides. he is doing wonderful. has stoped trying to strike at me when I handle him. He @ as long as my forearm and is eating fuzzies f/t.

I have a 25 gallon high tank that is 24"L X 12"W X 21" H and was wondering if he would benifit from it. Do they like to climb or would he be better off in say a 20 or 30 long tank? i haven't been able to find much info on proper size housing for a gopher. is there any good sites about them as well? thanks.

Gophers are more terrestial, they dont really need to climb. You can provide them with a branch and they will come off the ground but I think a larger surface area would benefit them more than height and climbing stuctures. There is a pituophis care sheet on kingsnake.com, take a look at that. And ask all the questions you need here. Good luck with your new snake!
