MY FEMALE VEILD

RyanDonnelly Dec 07, 2004 10:11 AM

I baught my female veild with a big white looking scab on her head becasue she was being miss treated and as soon as i saw her i fell in love and decided i would pay for a vet and what is necessary. I had my house call vet come and it ended up being a staff infection and he looked at her and he gave me a shot to give her everyday and so i continued to do so and put the drops on her head. I was done with the shots so i quite giving her her shots and now it looks to have come back and she has liquid coming out her nose and i have read many times its too much calcium in her diet. I was wondering if anyone had any tricks i could use. If anyone could help it would be much appreciative thanks
Ryan

If the infection is back you need to go back to the vet. He will know the history and what treatment has already been used. Chances are no over the counter meds will fight it and you'd need a vet prescription anyway. White stuff coming out of the nostrils may be excess salt, not calcium. Many chams get rid of excess salts in their diet or their water (is your spray water hard or soft?) this way. If there is so much that the nostrils are blocked she might have a respiratory infection, but most often a little bit of white is just salt. Fairly normal for veileds but you should probably spray her more to help keep them clear and to make sure she's drinking enough. It is often an early sign of slight dehydration.
