also my female was under a UVB reptiglo 8.0 and she started to look kind of dark and i noticed when i took her out she would get lighter and so i baught her a BIG ficus tree and just left her outside the cage under the rooms 4 36" flourecent lights. Doese anyone think i should not do this?? could it have any bad results because she looks happier. Thanks Ryan

I don't think she turned dark because of the lighting. Was there something in the room she was reacting too? Was there a big change in temp? If the light was too hot she'd turn very light colored. That level of UVB should not be too much, but I haven't used that particular bulb. But, keeping her away from the UVB light will be a problem over time. Chams need exposure to UVB lighting (the fluorescent type) for at least 12 hours a day. For example, a cham needs to be within 18" of a ReptiSun 5.0 fluorescent bulb to get much UV. Try it again and see if she does the same thing...I'll bet something else caused her reaction.

Chams will get darker when basking to absorb more heat. Mine will darken the side that is facing the lamp. I have used the ReptiGlo 8.0 till about 3 weeks ago (I swithced to the ZooMed one coz it was cheaper & I heard it worked better), but up until then, both my chams could get as close as only about 4 inches with no adverse effects. You cham was probablly just warming up & enjoying the heat =)
