I've got 4-5 year old Schneider skink that has some badly irritated skin. The odd thing is that I can't see any ticks...and all sharp edges have been covered in the cage (thought he was scraping himself across the articles in the cage). Seems to maybe be an infecion...I am putting polysporin on the wounds....but doesnt seem to be helping much. It looks like someone is rubbing his skin aggressively in the wrong direction. (best way to describe)
Odd thing...skink behaves just fine! Runs around....basks, drinks, eats everything, just like he always had. Temp is fine, food is diverse (crickets, pinkies, moist cat food, wax worms, super worms....a grand diversity) and a sand substrate he loves to burrow in. Also...shares a large cage with two fence swifts and they are perfectly healthy. I have never seen them fight or squable, and the wounds wrap completely around the skinks body...so he can't be making them himself.
I wish I could put an image up to should you the red welts and lifted scales. Any way I can just 'paste' an image? I dont know how to work URL's or the like...but it'd be tough to give helpful advice without the descriptive assisstance of a photo.
I live in a small town with no exotic animal vets, so help would be appriciated. Polysporin is ok for a skink? Could it be ticks? (even though I can't see any).
Thanks all
