Controling a Leo's appitite with tank temp?

-JayDog- Dec 07, 2004 12:36 PM

I've been reading a lot more about the Tempature of the tank and how it effects the appitite of Leos. I usually keep my tanks around 88 - 90 degrees, never higher. If I increase the temp to about 93 - 95, will that increase the Leos appitite? Any advice would help.

Yeah, it's true that higher temps will raise a geckos metabolism thus making it hungrier, but remember, in a cage you have to have graduated heat in an enclosure to let a gecko choose where it wants to rest. Because of this, even if you did raise one part of the tank to 93 degrees, it doesn't mean the geckos will choose to bask in that area...I beleive the only way this would work is if you put the entire tank to that high of a temp, which would be bad for the geckos since they would have no place to cool down. If your geckers don't seem hungry, try offering them some different types of foods to tempt them. ^^

Agreed. A tank being to hot is just as bad if not worse than a tank being to cold. I've seen many Gecko's succumb to the horrors of heat stress.
