Can someone help me out here? Just need some info.

Can someone give me some info on Spotteds? I am really starting to think that maybe that they are one of the best choices, but I have only read a couple caresheets and still don't know too much about them.

Please let me know what I am looking at with spotteds, what I need to get started, optimal setup, where I can get hatchlings, etc...

Thanks.

Hi,

I first wanted spotteds until I saw prices on them. I ended up getting 2 false maps hatchlings at a reptile show...no one had any miss. maps or painteds.
I love them!!! They are so cute and friendly.

What kind of info are you looking for? I found a site called Austins turtle page that has info on miss maps and others.

I just took a look at the classified section. There's an ad called the six pack- 6 hatchlings for $50 including shipping and they had miss maps listed.

Thanks for the info, any info (care sheets, size, lifespan, needs, what I would need before I get one, etc...) on any of the maps would be helpful, a friend told me about the false maps, and they sound like they would work. I just want something that doesn't have out of the ordinary care requirements and stays fairly small.

My two (both 3" are in a 55 gal tank with about 12 gals of water. I have an canister filter called Zoo med 501. I got it from petsmart. I also have a small whisper in tank filter too. It helps move the water around a litte. Spot and Squiggles loves it. They hang out in front of it and play in the water overflow.
I have a basking bulb above their basking spot and a reptile combo light from petsmart on the other side. It has 3 bulbs in it and I leave the blue one on all the time to keep the air temp up.

I followed the caresheet on Austins Turtle page...my air temp in the tank is 80, basking spot is 90 and water temp is about 75.
I feed my guys once a day in a dishpan with water and leave them in it for around 30 minutes. Turtles are nasty!
When I first got them I feed them in the tank and the water got so nasty and ammonia and everything was sky high. Since I stopped, that has improved. I also change half the water out twice a week and that helps too.

Maybe that'll help you out a bit. Here's what my tank looks like.
