Does anyone use roaches as their main food source?

bmulcahy Dec 07, 2004 03:15 PM

I have one really picky eater in my class and he hasn't grown much over the last 14 months( he looks like a 6 month old beardie at best). He eats enough to live and that is it. I tested his poop and there were no parasites. I offer all kinds of vegetation, crickets, mealworms, and super worms. Nothing works consistently! A kid in my school said he feeds his beardie cockroaches and he brought one into my class. My picky ate it no problem. Is this something I should consider? I will try anything. Temps in the tank are fine- basking at 105 degrees, cool side at 80 degrees, and a 90 degree area.

Thanks!
Brian

you also could try waxworms or butterworms.

You dont want to use Butters or Waxies as a steady diet though. Theyre too high in fat to use as anything more than an occasional treat. Roaches, however, are very nutiritionally balanced, and actually a higher source of calcium than most other bugs. Another great alternative is silkworms.

GOod luck!
