BABY HOGNOSES STILL NOT EATING......what should we do?

cv768 Dec 07, 2004 06:22 PM

We have two baby hognoses and niether of them have eaten in two weeks...we tried pinkies which were "brained", tuna scented pinkies and now live pinkies and none of them have worked!

What should we do?

OK are they westerns or easterns? what temps do you have them at? humidity? I have seen stubborn baby easterns go from not eating anything at 80 degrees, to eating anything that moves at 85. also high humidity is key with easterns. try raising the temperature to 85, and making sure they have at least 12 hours of daylight for a week. then start trying to feed them again..they might have started brumating. keep scenting, and keep braining. have you gotten them to eat in the past?

they both get 14 hours of daylight, the basking side is at about 88 and the cool side is at 75 with a gradient in between.

They both have adaquate hiding spots and water dishes. They are westerns.

We've had them for just under a month and the female ate a pinkie head once when we first got her...the male has never eaten.

Not that I'm getting too worried, but when is it proper to force feed a snake? Or is it ever proper to force feed a snake?

If it is...what would be the case in which you would have to force feed?
