WHAT CAN I PUT IN WITH MY LEO!? *IMPORTANT*

GECKOPHELIAC Dec 07, 2004 07:07 PM

Hey all!

I was just wondering what other kinds of animals i can put in the same tank as my leo. I have sand for a substance so i was hoping to be able to put some hermit crabs in with my full grown male leo but i dont know if they are small enough for him to even TRY to eat. and if he does the crab might pinch his tail and i dont even wanna think of the consequences. what do you all think? MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT IF YOU REPLY! i the hermit crabs could survive in his enclosure.

ps. any other geckos/animals i should consider?

Do not put any other animals in the cage with the leo.

Why would you want to put other animals in with the gecko??? Especially hermit crabs? I used to have a bunch of hermit crabs when I was a kid, and one of the crabs ate all the other ones, then grew to be as big as a baseball. So, I can't see putting something like that with a gecko.

Nothing. I've heard of people putting fat tails in with leos but either one or both of the speices would be unhappy. Fat tails require more humidity than leos and any other gecko/lizard would probably end as being food or the hunter.

Why Hermit Crabs? I have been asked that same question before by someone at a show and I am still sort of taken back by it.

Here is a good way to look at it: Crabs live on the beach which is next to the ocean. Leo's live in Pakistan and Afghanistan which is near the desert.

The combining of species can be done but I do not recommend it to someone unless they have extensive knowledge of both species.
