Getting to switch to ft pk mice problems

tim5580 Dec 07, 2004 09:18 PM

I have a female dumerils boa, 4 1/2 months old, about 28" long. She only eats live mice she kills right now. I want to get her to eat pk/ft before I start her on rats. I tried killing a mouse and offering it to her twice before but she doesn't eat them. She constricted one for a couple seconds but didn't eat it, and she just struck at this one more of a pissed off bite than feeding bite because she didn't even try to constrict it. I kill the mouse, hold it in tongs and move it in front of her. I eventually leave it in the tank overnight for her, but both times it looks like she didn't touch it. I'm not giving her any food this week, so maybe I can get her to eat it if she goes 2 weeks without food. But anyone know any tricks I can use to get her to take them? And you think she is a healthy size?
Thanks

I usually try freshly pre-killed before I switch over to frozen thawed, this just gets them used to non-live food. Your idea to wait a week is also a good idea, it helps if they are hungry. When I leave pk/ft food in the cage over night I put it on a paper towel to seperate it from the substate. Like I always say I am not an expert these are just my experiences.
