i have a HUGE problem *plz read now!

HerpGirl Jul 02, 2003 08:52 AM

i just built these custom cages and the top cage is one cage divided into 2... 1 side for my ribbon, one side for 2green anoles, 1 brown anole and one green tf. yesterday there was a lot of noise(like banging around)so i looked up and my ribbon somehow got into the anole/tf cage! and it was like midnight so i was not in the mood to deal with this! he didnt eat for over 2 weeks becuase i just got him a lot of fish but they all died from heat before he got to eat them so i had to throw them away. needless to say 1 of the green anoles also got out somehow and it turns out he ATE my green tree frog! i was sooo mad! actually i still am. anyway i opened the front and tried to grab him and he lunged at my hand trying to bite me(dont no if u read my other post) so instinctively i pulled my hand back and now he is out somewhere in my room! i looked for him untill about 2 AM. but i really had to get to sleep so i could get up for work(thats where i am now- i watch 2 kids)so he is still out, im hoping he doesnt go under my door and get into the rest of my house and i have no clue how to find a little ribbon snake even though he is an adult! who is also now fat becuase the little prick(im trying to keep this post clean!)ate my treefrog.i have had the tf for a while and was even feeding him in a seperate container just so he would stay healthy! grrr... does anyone have any suggestions on finding him? uh oh... i hope he doesnt find my fish aquarium... sigh...i have my preggie swordtail in there and if he its her... omg the snake is causing so much trouble im starting to think i should have just stuck with my lizards(i have very many of them besides the lil anoles!)
thankx 4 the help.

2 weeks without food.I would have ate your treefrog too. These snakes need to eat every three days or so.Unless your are feeding them pinks then you could stretch it out 6-7 days.Learn from your mistakes.Ribbons and garters are masters of escape!Your cage should not have any kind of gaps.

but i bought him 30 fish and from the summer heat my room got very hot and all of the feeders died. they yucked up his water bowl and made everything stink so i had to flush them all(they were dead) and since i cant legally drive it is very hard for me to get a ride to the pet store in the middle of the week especially when i am working. i dont blame him for eating it or anything i am just a little mad(mostly at myself)i just wanted to know if anyone had any idea how to find and catch him.

At least you know he's still in the room somewhere, so whenever you leave, wedge something under the door like an old shirt or towel so he can't get out. Sooner or later when he gets thirsty, he'll more than likely show himself.

after i got home yesterday i ripped everything apart looking and no sign of him. since my room/house is so warm i know he will be okay for a little untill i find him but i am worried he will starve.he is not like other snakes that will eat mice or anything(i tried pinkies and he wouldnt touch them)if he finds them. i guess he might find my aquarium.... i would really have him eat my fish than die(sorry but im not really a fish person anyway.) i cant really think of anyway to get him food since he will prolly only eat live fish if i put them out.

Like I said, it will probably be thirst that drives him out instead of hunger. Snakes can go alot longer without food than they can without water. I had a similiar problem awhile back, when one of my garters had gotten loose in my car and climbed up into the dashboard. After a week and a half or so, he finally decided to come out because of thirst. When I offered him some water, he submerged his entire head and must of drank for about 5 minutes straight.

As far as finding him, one trick I've heard of is sprinkling flour around the floor. If he's still around, tracks will show up eventually. Focus especially in and around out-of-the-way places, like corners, closets, around furniture, etc. He'll most likely want to keep a low profile in this strange new world he's in. Good luck!
