a friend of mine imported these from surinam .. like 4 months ago .. i have read a little bit on them but not much .. i do know they eat larvae and or earthworms and other insects dead or alive . i saw one of these little guys munch on a whooooooole earthrorm over 2/3rds its own size like nothing.. i also know that they drink their water out of the soil so they must be kept damp to very moist at times.. they dont see very well, but have other good senses.. i also know its in their own class.. it moves like a worm itself and its whole body is made of rings like an accordian .. it issss a reptile though .. i just thought id post it to see what you guys thought of it and if anyone out there knows or has any info on these guys id really appreciate it ..ex , temps etc. thanks in advance .. i hope you guys like

I heard about BBS a few years ago, they are a puzzle that not much is known about. I do that all of them are females and they reproduce asexually. From what I have read, they are found all over the world now because they live in soil and have been exported in the soil in plants. I know they eat bugs, but from what I've read, they are really tiny and mostly eat ant larvae. Keep us posted on any info or ID's you get. They are pretty cool looking!

See ya,

but with the scientific name and all there is very little about them and the price tag on these guys aint cheap . but they are hardy and do very well.. as long as you keep the soil moist.. and these guys are around 10 inches long .. not that small ..

I'm geting this info. (Very Little) From Reptile's and Amphibians a Field Guide, from Mark O' Shea & Tim Halliday it's from the Family (Amphisbaenidae) Species "Amphisbaena fuliginosa" it's Common in South American Rain Forest, it lay's egg's (Clutch size unknown) it's Nocturnal, feed's on invertebrates and it's a burrowing Animal, usually seen above ground after heavy rain's. And it lay's it's egg's in Ant Nest. That's about all the info. here. Those are "Cool" looking Lizard's Good Luck with them ! ! Take Care !

Hi there,

sorry for the caps, but I wanted to get your attention. I'm a vertebrate functional morphologist at the University of Miami and the lab I work in works on the biomechanics and function of locomotion of limbless herps. One of the groups of critters we work on are, of course amphisbaenids. I would love to know more about how you acquired those animals and if any more are still available, or even if you may be willing to sell some to us. In any case, if you cannot find anymore imports, you'd be doing us a great service to throw them in a bag of water and freeze up when they do die and send them to us as we can always use good specimens for comparative anatomical studies.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me (gartner@bio.miami.edu) or to check out our lab web-page (i'm the one having the staring contest with the mud-snake...which I lost)

thanks a ton

After I moved from an apartment of mine, the manager suddenly calls me at work and starts questioning me about me owning a snake. I told him, yes I do have a snake and I wanted to know why he was asking me. He said the new resident found one in her place and she threw it outside on the pavement, although it was the dead of winder here in Colorado. I asked the manager what it looked like (the snake). He said it looked like a worm, but with eyes! I explained it couldn't have been in any fault of mine, because at that time I only owned a 6 1/2 foot long redtail, and that their babies would be at least a foot long and be the width of my pinky - not something someone could confuse with a worm! I thought he was crazy and said I wanted to see this "snake" the resident found in my old apartment. Next thing you know, he came to my office with a deli cup and on the bottom was this tiny black w/ white rings/bands snake the size of a very small worm. I've never actually seen them, but have heard of them. I looked it up and it seems this particular one was kind of rare...I just felt bad for the poor guy being thrown out in the snow, and died as a result from a person's ignorance....

Ha ha ha...I work for this company that managed my old apartment the snake was found in. They didn't and wont charge me. Don't worry...I will quote yet again..."ignorance is bliss". Think before you type and don't assume.
