Feeding live as rats...then frozen rabbits? Sounds confusing...

bloodboy128 Dec 07, 2004 10:47 PM

Ok well my local pet sdtore has great reptile collection....It also has cheap live feeders from rat pups to jumbo. I was going to feed my burm live prey until he finally gets to rabbitas and then switch to frozen since i will be buying from the internet...I know many people do not bleive in live feedings but in nature thats what snakes do and a burm is fully capable of this plus i stun the food a little before offering....Is this going to be a problem? will it be harder to get him on rabbits? Just a note my burm switched over to rats from mice very easily in 1 try...
thanks,
JaKE

If the snake will take dead food items, then that is what I would feed it. Just because snakes must kill their food while in the wild doesn't mean it is without serious risks. WC snakes often are badly scarred from their successful and failed attempts at capturing food and they do die from infections received during some of these struggles. It will also make it easier to switch over to rabbits especially if you find you need to scent the rabbit with rats. Good luck
