Help please. Laying eggs w/o a male. is this normal?

moriah Dec 08, 2004 09:18 AM

4 year old retired breeding female just layed 15 eggs and is not eating. She hasnt been around a male in 5 months. Is this normal? Could the eggs be fetilized?

Yep, it's completely normal. You need to give her a lay box so she can finish. Basically a large rubbermaid tub with moist dirt piled 10-15" deep on one end and point a light at it to keep it warm. She should dig a tunnel and lay the rest if she has any more. Not eating during the final stages of being gravid is also completely normal, she should pick back up again here shortly. Even though beardies can retain sperm for several months, unless she's been laying regularly since she was separated from the male I would doubt that they are fertile.

So she lays the eggs right... do you just toss em? Although I'm not sure, I doubt that the eggs would hatch out babies... right? LoL

Ya, just toss them. You could run them through the freezer first if you think there may be any chance that they might be fertile.

Thanks, I haven't had her for very long and I was a little worried. I appreciate the info.
