John E. - New owner with Gravid Collard - Is she an Aquaflame or what???

GEM May 15, 2003 04:04 PM

Hi This is my beauty queen Xena. Posted note earlier regarding my female that I am worried about. Here is a picture of her in all her glory and beautiful colors. Is she an aquaflame? Also, you never mentioned if egg binding is a common thing among captive breds.

Thanks for your expertise. Will be posting more Xena and her mate Scholtz. Hope you enjoy.

Greta

Sorry, I didn't realize people were posting in the new area yet...duh! Your female does look identical to my female aquaflames. However, as Eve mentioned above, the term "aqauflame" basically refers to lizard from a certain locale in which the male exhibit nice aqua blue bodies, and yellow/orange heads. The male you have appears to have some nice yellow starting on his head! In my opinion, the color varition looks very "aquaflame" LOL

Egg binding is a problem. Luckily I've only come close to experiencing it...I've had problems with eggs this year...some have been laid extremely hard like jelly beans. I'm just thankful they were laid. Just be sure the laying area is adequate...they will quit eating for a few days prior...keep the areas moist, but no too wet.

Nice looking female! Looks remarkably like one I got last Fall. Did you get it from Paul McIntosh, Cleveland, TN? He does breed aquaflames but my look-alike female was not sold as such.

She is a bit over one year old I think...she was pretty brown for a while, but is slowly getting more and more teal colored. She is now getting some light yellow around her neck. In this pic, you can notice one egg bulging on her right side. I think she laid about 6 eggs, only four of which are still looking good. The should hatch any day now.
