Need help....

GECKOX12 Dec 08, 2004 06:39 PM

My Leo isn't eating, and hasn't been for about 2 weeks now. There are periods where she doesnt eat for a while, then eats a lot for a little while, then it repeats...

She's pretty active at night, she runs around her Cage, but she just won't eat! She's starting to lose weight as well, and I'm getting concerned. I really don't know if it's the heat, or may be it's just a thing she does, I still wanna know...

Also how long shoudl I keep Crickets in the cage? My Mom put about 10 in a couple hours ago, she hasnt eaten them at all....

Could this be because of the weather?

Also i'm thinking it may be the temp... If there is a change in the temp will it take a few days to adjust to it?

There is a vet, but they are about 45 minutes away, I might try calling him later, but someone please help me.

First you should never leave crickets in the cage for over an hour. By then she would be full, and you'd know she wasn't interested in eating anymore. Crickets have been known to literally "chew" the toes of lizards. They get hungry and search all over for food, chewing on everything including your Leo. I would try mealworms. They are more nutritious. Put a shallow bowl in her cage and fill it with some mealworms. Once she's eaten all she wants take the rest out. Then give her a day without food. Not seeing the wiggly bugs constantly will stimulate her to eat(trust me I've used it on a few of my Leos). And always dust her food, whether crickets or mealworms. It could be the temp since it is almost winter, but that wouldn't cause her to go 2 weeks without food. Try my suggestion, and if that doesn't work after a few days take her to the vet. Hope this helps you. I know how scary it is to think your Gecko is sick. I got my first Leo when I was 15 and she's now almost 7 years old!!! Good luck.

I've actually used Mealworms mostly, I really hate Cricks, but today my Mom bought a new cage and set everything up, and put in the Crickets, before I got home. The cage is very nice, but she went ahead and put in the sand and cricks. Argh.

I'll try calling a vet tommorow. She's actually very active, when I take her out she is always exploring and stuff. Also I'm pretty sure she is passing all her food, so thats good.

Oh yeah By the Way she ate a mealy the other day, I didn't see it, but I left one minute and a couple minutes later the dish was missing one.

Speaking of missing, my gecko also has a bad foot, that is missing a few toes(got her from Petco, what do you expect), and she sometimes shakes her leg when she walks around. Is this really bad?

And finally what should I do with the crickets? Keep em? Kill em?

10 crickets jumping around in your bed would drive you nuts right? A couple crickets at a time is sufficient if the gecko doesn't seem to want them right away. Don't take them out till the following day, leos are nocturnal and an hour doesn't necessarily give your gecko enough time. It will eat when it's ready which may not be till 3am for all you know.
Make sure the gecko has water and isn't dehydrated. Also, let the water sit for a day before you offer it to the gecko. This allows the chlorine enough time to disapate (spelling?.
Good Luck,

My leo won't eat crickets. It may just be a preference thing. Try feeding it something else, like mealworms or something.
