2 ?'s on blue tails

reamk924 Dec 08, 2004 08:14 PM

I have a blue tail that is 22" long TL. Can anybody give me a round about idea about how old he is? Also, when he defacates, he has 2 spike type things that come out on either side of his vent, not hemipenes, just spikes. Is that an indication of sex?

This may be a dumb question, but can I put a black tree and a blue tail together in a large cage as long as they are the same length, but not both males?

It could be anyplace from 8 months or older. Going by size to judge age is not accurate, if it was not given the correct support the body will not grow. Not sure what you mean by spikes. The male and female organs look similar. Males is larger, longer, and has a clubbed or odd shaped end. Females is shorter not as thick and a smooth tube. Colors can vary with species. You may be seeing a undeveloped sex organ one of an immature animal.

You can put them together, noone can stop you. if your asking if they will get along? who knows only they know they might they might not. They may for awhile then one day end all ties. Now may I ask why would you put them together?? For a companion? should I put my beardie in with my flavi? just cause I think they are lonely? Even if they are the same size? Being same sex has little to do with tolerating a different species yet alone something that you may snack on in the wild.

The blue tail came from Ben Seigel about 2 weeks ago, he told me it was about 4 months. That just seemed a little young to me for the length he is. But I am new to blue tails, so what the hell would I know (haha)

Unless he hatched it or knows who did, he is only guessing.
It is possable for monitors to grow very fast. It all depends on how much support they are given as well as genetics of course.
