EMERGENCY!!!!?small toad with inside out butt

UroJade Dec 08, 2004 08:24 PM

My small american toad (1-2 inches)has his butt inside out , sorry i cant remeber what thats called but i dont know what to do and i dont know how long its been like that i just noticed when i took him him out to take a picture of how much he's grown, he's always been on topsoil with another toad of the same size and two large rocks that they burrow under. i feed the small crickets but yesterday i found a cricket that would be to big for him in the tank i think it must have gotten in threw the open top so its possible that he eat a larger cricket. i soaked him to get the dirt off and now he's in a seperate container with moist papertowels
is there anything i can do to fix it, i cant afford to got to the vet right now, and even if i could i dont think the one near me would know what to do

I've had this problem with a giant male African Bullfrog before. It sounds gross but I had to use my pinky finger and push everything back inside.... (wash before and after) With a smaller frog like that I would bet it's not as easy.

Do you have a vet you can at least call? I would try that first....

it was to late to call a vet but some freinds on another forum were able to help me i ended up useing a Q-tip soaked in mineral oil (so it wouldnt stick) to gently push it back in and he looked better like five minutes after it was done.he re-inflated himself and hid up in the corner of the kritter keeper i had him in. now he's back in with the other toad and their both on paper towels so i can monitor him for a few weeks to see that he's eating and using the bathroom ok and everything.
