Water size for Cuviers Dwarf ?

TB Dec 08, 2004 09:21 PM

I plan on moving my Cuviers into a 150 gallon tank - then 300 gallon after that ? There will also be a separate land area but two questions please:
1] The water tank is @ 3 ft. deep. Is that too deep for these guys ? Do they dive that deep ? I don't even have them yet but they are only @ 12 - 15 inches now.
2] Eventually there will also be @ 4 ' W x 8 ' L x 3 ' H land area attached. Will a 300 gallons be large enough for the water area for a full grown Cuviers ? How about 300 gallons for two 1.1 full grown Cuviers ? Help ?
Thank you

MB,
My personal opinion on water depth is that it should be aprox. half the length of the caiman if it is only one depth through out. If you vary the depth it is fine to have deeper water. That just an opinion though. A 300 gallon water tank would be a little on the small side for an adult pair but frankly I have seen healthy adult dwarfs in smaller setups.

Thank you. Does anyone else have an opinion on water depth for these guys ?
Please realize that there is a separate land area attached to the water tanks [150 / 300 gallon ] . I did not want anyone to think that I plan on keeping them in just the Rubbermaid tank.
