simple (i think) shed question

somegirl Jul 02, 2003 10:34 AM

the humid hide has helped enormously with my python's shed, but its been a few days and he's still got a long way to go. at what point do you decide you have to remove the dead skin for him?

Usually they shed the skin in under an hour.
In this case I would help him by taking a moist washcloth to the stuck shed and see if you can gently help him get it off.
Or you could place him in about a half inch of water for a little while.

and I got some great advice here on the forum! I ran a warm bath in the sink for my boy, and while at first he thought I was crazy, he finally calmed down. I dipped parts of his body in the water, and rubbed him gently to help him along. After about 10 minutes of this. I sat down and kept "petting" him, rubbing him gently, and got almost all of the old skin off!

It felt like unwrapping a Christmas present, he was so beautiful when I was done! he appeared so happy when I was done, and he didn't seem to stess too much.

good luck!
