Redfoot Tortoise Eggs in Incubator.. keep the faith!!

clemmysman Dec 09, 2004 11:57 AM

These are mostly from 3 Columbian Redfoot tortoises raised from 10/98 hatchlings.. 37 eggs from those observed "nesting".. so far in 2004.. so you can imagine the anticipation! Keep the faith they will hatch!

The link below shows all of the "Breeders".. Sonshine & Sister and both males are Surinam/Guyana natives.. note "title" at bottom of individual pics.

My purpose is to share my good fortune.. hope you enjoy.

Love those Redfoots.. Terry

Nice going Terry! Looking forward to seeing your hatchlings.
Where did you get that round thermometer? Is it accurate?
I need to upgrade mine and I haven't found a good source for ACCURATE thermometers. In fact, I have four in my incubator now and they all give different readings be several degrees.
BTW........got three more cherryhead eggs last night.

Thanks Carl.. that would have been you who helped identify the Columbians!

That thermo is ZooMed in case you couldn't tell.. got as promo on an order of bulbs from "Big Apple".. seems to work real well.

I don't want anyone to think that all 37 Columbian eggs made it this far.. only about 32 have. All toll around 57 eggs have been created amongst the 5 females. The breeding conditions were perfect all year here in mid-east TN.. rain, rain and more rain! Temps in high 80's to low 90's.. they must have thought it was Monsoon/Breeding season all year.

Love those Redfoots.. Terry

This is one of my favorite Redfoot pics...

I am using digital thermometers (the maximum - minimum type) in my enclosure, and they are very sensitive and their readings match. That way you can also just stick the temperature probe into the incubator and do your reading any time outside. So no need to open the incubator.

Terry,- as always,- can't wait to see the baby-boom (especially though that little one,- you know...)!

...also, those white plastic dollar Wal-Mart™ temp gauge usually about 3 to 5 deg fiffers compared to the ($50) herp-shop digital (w/probe) type. (Wal-Mart™'s digital w/probe types are even worst, they fluctuates even further...unless they carry differ brands from each states...oh well... it's pretty much what you'd expect from a hardwarestore serving exclusively primates...)
