Purifying Water

beardedavenger Dec 09, 2004 01:15 PM

Hi, this question may have been previously asked but i didnt see it.
Is "purified" bottled water free of chlorine? Ive used the purifying solution you can buy at pet stores, but my friend feeds his snakes spring water. Is it safe to do this with bearded dragons?

Yes, it is safe to give your dragon spring water. I really do not think it is necessary to dechlorinate the water. I use our Brita water for our dragons, and that is fine, but im pretty sure regular tap water can be used with no problems!

chlorine in tap water is fairly unstable. If you fill a container and leave the lid off all night all traces of any chlorine residual should be gone. With bottled "spring water" there is really no guarantee that you aren't getting the same water you get from your tap (and sometimes are!!). Never use de-ionized, distilled, or reverse osmosis water as some scientists believe that this will actually leach minerals from your body, based on the principles of osmosis. The majority of minerals utilized by the body are from the water we drink. This typically applies to humans but probably applies to reptiles equally.
