Annabella's shedding

beanjacksahead Dec 09, 2004 01:31 PM

She started shedding at the start of the week. She was changing coulour for a while befor that so I knew it was coming. I don't have a humidity box yet so I gave her a soak once so far. also since she's been shedding her poo has been a little black looking. I worry alot I know but I don't think it's been like this befor. Is it something I should worry about, a sign of anything. I thought maby she was just a litle more dehidrated then usual but near the start of last week she saw a limabean that I dropped in the sand and went for it. It was still kind of wet and picked up a lot of sand so I worry that she might have gotten impacted. I just know that internal bleeding in humans makes your stool black and wondered... It was a little dried out already when I saw it so it could have been baked but I've never noticed it this black. Just making shure.
On a brighter note her new cage is near finished and ridiculously large! I'm not working on it continuously so it's taking awhile. Intended as a christmas gift. I was hoping to get her in it befor she started shedding, as it will have a humidity box, but I'm shure she'll like all the other benifits too!

I don't know for sure, but my Saharans' stool is very small and dark right now, too. They aren't eating as much, so the poo is much more compact. I have been assuming it's normal from the decreased intake.

If you're worried about impaction, you can bump up your temps a tidbit, and continue the soaks - soaks should help with the shed and any blockage problems.

This is just my best shot-in-the-dark guess here. If you really feel like something's wrong, get her to a vet.

Best of luck with the new cage! Congrats on that - how large is "ridiculous", anyway? She'll be super happy to get it, I'm sure!

Thanks.
That's about the same situation as Annabella is in. She hasn't been eatting as much. I just thought it would be better to check.
Her new home is 5.5'x3.5'. The front wall is 2' and one of the side walls is also two feet so that their's an angle for the window to go in. That way you can see all around the cage without to much glass. I found the window in my basement the day after I had planed everything and it's actualy perfect size!
It's just tall enough to fit through a door and I'm making a stand for it to sit on out of and old bed that's over staied it's welcome.
I gave her another soak today because she was getting realy irritated. She seems to prefer less strong temps which always keeps me worried that she'll catch something easier
Since it is realy dry in her tank should I give her a soak every day? Her shedding seems to be at the tough part at the moment. If she leans on her legs at a weird angle she kind of jumps and you can see it in her face that it stings. It's such a neat process but I wouldn't want to go through it.

Wow! That's a lucky lizard! She's going to have a great time with all that space to run around in!!
