Apalachicola Kings and a question for John Cherry....

Keith Hillson Dec 09, 2004 05:36 PM

John in your photo album here on kingsnake you have this picture listed twice. One time it says wildcaught and the other caption just read "beautiful hatchling". Is it wildcaught ? How is that snake looking today and is he developing into a more tan colored or white colored animal ?

Keith,

He was a wild caught hatchling that we lost after about two months of getting him. He was loaded with worms when we got him and just never thrived like he should have after worming and attempting to clean him up. He came from right outside Gainesville and was collected by Jim Harrison, whom I got him from to give due credit.

PS here is another one from that same area that I like a lot.

Whats the stats on that one ? Male or female ? Is it breedable ? Looks pretty decent sized from the pic and good looking as well.

You might want to find out more info on that snake John. Apalachicola Kings are only found in one small area up here in the panhandle...not anywhere near Gainesville.

If you were told those snakes came from the Gainesville area you were misinformed. Gainesville kings (which may no longer exist) are rather typical looking getula X floridana intergrades. There is over 100 miles of pure getula getula range between Gainesville and Appalachicola king range.

Okay, Okay I was replying off the top of my head and should have said Tallahassee, instead of Gainesville. My wife would say that that is a regular occurence and a sign of my age. I of course would disagree and say it was becuase I am so busy. LOL In any case they are pure old style Blotched Kings from right outside the park.

Sorry for the mistake,

That's OK John--these young whippersnaps need to cut us old suckers some slack!!!! Those Kings look great!!! Too bad that one was lost. I saw the kids you had with John at the Austin show (were they out of her?) and I came so close to biting but your Albino Northern Pines were just too awesome!!! Glad to see you have been able to post again the last week or so!

Sorry for the mistake,

No problem. I figured you got incorrect information and might want to correct it. Nice looking king though!
