I remember the good old days...

kerry04 Dec 09, 2004 07:37 PM

When I first got the herp and I used to brag about it and show everyone. Then I found this website and learned how to take care of it.

It just warms my heart and makes me laugh to come on here and read about stuff on here these days.A few of my favorite topics are:

"Hi. I am keeping my turtle in a deathbowl lagoon. For some reason he has not been eating and the water is brown.HELP!"

"I am keeping 7 turtles in a ten gallon. One just had his eye guaged out and the other is missing an arm. DO you think I am feeding them enough?"

"I have a new turtle I just bought in chinatown, and it is frothing at the mouth and wheezing.I heard turtles will turn white if you leave them in the dark long enough. How much do you think I could get for him? BTW, for the last person who suggested I get a heater for my tank, this turtle has been mine for 8 weeks and is doing just fine outside in the shed in the minnesota winter.Heaters are a waste of money"

" I was thinking of releasing my turtle into the canadien wilderness. What is the best way to mark him so I can identify him in case I see him again when I am at summer camp next summer?"

"I live in a third world country where water is scarce. DO I really have to change the water? How can I get rid of the smell?"

"My tank turned green and so I cleaned it with Lye just like grandpa said.My turtle hasn't moved or eaten in the 2 weeks since I cleaned the tank, and now has a layer of fuzz on him. What's up with his shell?Do you think rubbing a little vitashell on him will help this?"

I remember those days like it was yesterday. How wide eyed an eager beaver I was to buy a ten gallon tank with all the trimmings for my two turtles from petsmart(which all had to be put in the garage and another $500 spent on a 75 gallon and the fixings for it).
However, it is really great that at least now with the internet we can have a place like this to find out the right way to take care of our little cheloneans.
