Corns acting hyper - Any thoughts?

bmulcahy Dec 09, 2004 09:53 PM

I have 6 corns in my class. 2 males(40 inches each) in one tank, 2 females(36 inches each) in another tank, and a third couple(I rescued - about 30 inches) in another tank. All six are extremely active all day long. In the two years I have had the first 4 they have never been this active or the couple over the last year. They have never burmated, I missed the opportunity this year because I waited too long to get new cages. All six will be put in be Barr cages I just bought. What are they telling me? Any thoughts would be appreciated. They aren't looking to mate, are they?

i think they are looking to mate. (but i wonder if its the right time of year for that, i'm no breeder) i have a ghost corn about 36 inches and he was very active a few months ago. he wanted out all the time. some replies to my post here was he is close to breeding size. he wouldn't eat either...he just wanted out.
i would also think (and alot of folks say this) to not house 2 or more snakes in the same cage. how big are the cages? if they are in like 20 gallon long (the average size for a corn) then 2 snakes is too much.

Could it be it's not getting enough to eat? Also, is it possible it could have a stomach parasite? If all was well it would probably be hiding. Check temps too. Many of my snakes were just put down for brumating in early December, but your snake is in too poor of condition to do that.

The temps are good and all six eat a medium mouse once a week, so don't think it is hunger. They also have good size and meat on their bodies. They just are very active, all of them.

Over-activity might be due to temps too high. Also, has there been any bad sheds? How's the humidity? Remember, this time of year snakes tend to slow down some. TC.
