Is Brioche hibernating? Why?

Flavia Guimaraes Dec 09, 2004 09:56 PM

I didnt force her to hibernate, on the contrary! She is in a warm room, her lights are on the whole day, im giving her food but since the beggining of December she didnt go out from her hiding tube. The only thing i did was to put her cage next to a window where she can see that its gray and foggy outdoors.
When we lived in Malaysia where the weather is always hot and sunny she never hibernated or brumated. But now we are living in New Delhi, India, where the winter is very cold, mainly in the place where we live (in a farm-house). So although the temp inside her room is kept warm (80F in the colder areas) she decided to hibernate because outdoors the weather is cold. This doesnt make any sense to me!!

The photo was taken when we still lived in Malaysia

animals are alot smarter than we think. regardless of how warm it is in a room or how bright, my guys always know when it is winter and always know when it is raining.
for one of my collareds i just go through all the motions and let him choose if he wants to snooze or come out and bask
