I suppose I am not ready for boas yet. I'm a college student. I do have herp knowledge and a fair idea of keeping herps. I guess I do not have the right place for such critters. I have a quite a few colubrids and that is what I know more of. I'd like to get into smaller boas though. Those nics are so variable in color. They are awesome snakes too. I might obtain another after I graduate and am acclimated.

Would they work in a rack system? I have my colubrids in a rack system. I was keeping my Nic in a 10 gallon. It had gravel in the bottom with moss overlaying the gravel. I also had a turtle shell that I found in the wild. I had it soaked in bleach for a week, washed thoroughly and frozen to kill all parasites. I put some climbing limbs in there and a heated area. The light was timed to 12 hour cycles. I needed a thermometer. Sure makes it easier to determine temp fluxes.

I think Nics should be observed. They are beautiful snakes.

Based on what you keep I think you could do well with Nicaraguan boas. I use large Rubbermaids in a rack system. Heat is provided by heat tape connected to a thermostat. Nothing fancy but it works well. There are several posts below to try to help you sort out what may have happened. I know some dealers like Joe Rollo may observe their snakes for several months before selling them. Dealing with only reputable people like him will help lessen the chances of future problems. You are asking questions and that is a great step in the right direction. Good luck, Chris Ginkel
