This article is a good example of what the humane society and organizations like them are doing for us. In the ad link, you will see the article that was published today. The law goes into effect Jan. 1st 2005. Andy

I have already posted my thoughts on the ACC forum ("reticulated" here is a quote from my post there. I just want to remind everyone im not anti-boid and I am a retic keeper myself. keep that in mind before lighting the flame throwers...

"do support some banning. It does do the comunity good to have cobras out of the hands of the local 16yo,s. I also would like to male the point that I think there should be permits to keep the more dangerous animals like what most areas have for hots now.

Its not realistic to say that retics should be permited everywhere and hold the keeper resposible for the snakes actions. Think of it from a youg beginers pov. You can get a bci for $125 or a baby retic for $60 - $100. Sure the sales person should warn them about the size agression etc, but when you are looking at a 18 inch snake, 25 feet seems a long ways away.

So now you have a 18yo kid with a retic and after a year goes to school, gets bored, no room for their 10ft baby, or what ever reason you want, who wants to get rid of it. Now muitiply that by 1000s and you get the out come. Think of it this way how many burms are crowded in shelters??

If a cornsnake gets out its one thing, but when you retic escapes and makes the news its another... "

and what does that do for our hobby? even if they were to be leagle, then the general population would be morifide of all snakes leading to less resources, less new hobbyists, and not to mention less wild snakes....

I also posted there about "working against the humain scociety" They arent going anywhere, and will always remain a MAJOR influence on our hobby, and the general public. Who is the media going to go to for their story? the humain society or a group of hobbists who contradict 90% of what their public figure says?

We as the hobbists and keepers need to educate the public and groups like the humain society, aspca, etc. but to work gainst them is going to get you nowhere but in a worse position.

and in their defence they DO help alot of animals, and their work is important. everyone gets bent out of shape when animals get banned but how many of you actualy wrot letters to senetors, and other public officals on the topic in NY, and everywhere else it has happened? Dont get bent out of shape if you didny try to do anything about it.
